Fall time means family portraits. This session I did with such a great family. They were all so fun and happy, even the little ones. The weather was perfect too.

Beware of Background:
An easy way to improve your pictures is to be aware of what is in the background. Backgrounds can be very distracting and take the focus off of your subject. Notice where your eyes are drawn in this first picture compared to the second.

Photography Tip:
Off center the picture. A good photography rule is known as the rule of thirds. The rule of thirds is distinguished by dividing a picture into thirds vertically and horizontally, as pictured below, and placing the point of interest at the intersections. This makes the picture more aesthetically pleasing. This is not a rule to use 100% of the time but is a good guide. Use your judgment but don't be afraid to try it out.

In the example below I placed the horizon line at the top third of the picture. I also have the road leading off to the right. Notice the difference from the picture where the horizon and the road are in the center of the picture.

One more thing, most cameras focus on the center of the lens so you may need to focus on what you want clear and reposition the camera.
